Writing Tips 6

Today’s Tip: The Atmosphere

As you all know, atmosphere builds up your surroundings. In books, it builds up your setting. Adjectives are professionals at this.

The Adjective named Dark wanders in the deepest alleys with its friends Shadow and Mysterious. Light, on the other hand, enjoys the park with friends Sunny and Peaceful. At Saturday night parties, Crazy dominates the dance floor along with Hyper, Heat, and Sweaty. And out on the battlefield, Bloody is the master, wielding Silver swords to cut off Painful cries.

For some books, it’s best to describe your setting in as few words as possible so your reader doesn’t get bored. In other books, it’s best to grab your reader’s attention through stunning imagery and a graceful flow of words. It really depends on you.
